Sculptural White Bathroom | Richmond
A heavy stone master bathroom reworked in pale large-format porcelain, with a freestanding bath and a bespoke fluted double vanity.
Project brief
The room had been finished in dark natural stone for over fifteen years. It was generous in size but felt closed-in, and the clients wanted something lighter, more contemporary and easier to maintain, while keeping a sense of luxury.
The design replaces the whole palette with Corian paired with a warm stone-effect tile kept for the shower zone. A freestanding bath replaces the old inset one, opening up the middle of the room, and a bespoke fluted vanity takes the place of the long run of dark cabinetry.
Designer's note:
The room had space and good light, but the dark stone absorbed all of it. We let the sash window do the work, with pale porcelain throughout and warmer stone-effect tile kept for the shower. Moving the bath into the middle of the room made the biggest difference. The vanity was drawn as a floating, fluted piece of furniture, lit from beneath for the evenings.
The results
The heavy stone is gone, replaced by a bright, open master bathroom within the original footprint.
